CALIFORNIA -- Various regions
French wine importer Bob Shack (of H.B. Wine Merchants) founded his own Californian label looking to blend elegance & style into powerful California wines from well known producers, and provide attractive pricing. Bob buys 50 to 60% base grapes (primarily from Lake Co.) and custom crushes them, blending in different lots of wine that have seen about 1/3 new oak, adding complexity to his base.
WHITE: Chardonnay
Hawley Vineyards and Winery are located on Bradford Mountain, overlooking the Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma County. John Hawley started the winery after 25 years of winemaking at some of California's most influential wineries. Today he and his two sons, Paul and Austin, produce unique wines from small lots (most yielding less than 500 cs each). Hawley Vineyards was certified organic in 2006 after three years of growing organically.
WHITE: Chardonnay + Sauvignon + Viognier
RED: Cabernet Sauvignon + Pinot Noir + Zinfandel (incl. Mendocino Old Vine + "Ponzo")
Piedrasassi is a collaboration between acclaimed DC chef/restaurateur Peter Pastan & winemaker Sashi Moorman. These wines express their shared viticultural passion & continue the theme of their shared culinary passion from when Sashi worked at Peter's restaurant Obelisk. Exploring their flagship varietal Syrah to its fullest extent in Santa Barbara County, they declare: "Wine, just like food, or music, or art... should come from someone & somewhere."
